What is meant by resultant force
The resultant force is the sum of all the forces acting on an object, it can be thought of as representing all the forces acting on an object as just one force.
If the forces are acting in different directions on the object, find the vertical resultant force and the horizontal resultant force. Then using pythagoras and some trig you can find the final resultant force on the object and its direction.
Also remember force is a vector quantity so when summing the forces together you have to consider which direction they are going in as you may need to subtract the forces instead.

Sorry if that was a bit long but hopefully you get the jist, if not feel free to ask for some clarification.
