Imperial interviews for Computing/Maths (2025 entry)??

For Imperial's 2025 entry onto Computing/JMC, it now says:

'Interviews are not standard but may be offered to some candidates at the discretion of the admissions tutors.'

Similarly, for Maths it now says:

'We don't currently use interviews as part of our regular admissions process.

We may consider students for interview where there are mitigating circumstances that need investigating, or where the background of the student means that their application requires further consideration. In these cases, our conditional offer may change as a result of the interview, and as with all candidates, each application is considered on its individual merits.'

Why has this changed? Previously, all of these courses required interviews before applicants could be offered a place, so why would they stop this?
It also mentioned that 'typical offers may require STEP' - does this mean it's likely 2025 entrants will have to do TMUA as well as STEP for entry?

Yeah, this may explain why they're not doing interviews.

However, I don't think this is a good idea, as applicants who flop the TMUA will not get a chance to redeem themselves at interview.

Tbf it’s the same atm also. People who didn’t do great at their proprietary admissions test don’t get shortlisted for interview. Interviews were never ‘standard’
