lucid dreaming...

anyone ever had a lucid dream, or do you get them often? the other day I realised I was in a dream, but then I woke up before I could do anything  although in the last 2 years I have had sleep paralysis a few times (which is awesome btw) and now I'm just watching videos on youtube that tell you how to have them lol

so, has anyone ever had any?

Yea a couple of times.

It's a pretty cool feeling. I once had a dream where I was shot in the jaw, and was left to die on the ground. Just before I "died", I realised that it was just a dream, so I got up and was running around looking for medical help with a gaping hole on one side of my face

But I hardly remember my dreams. Only the ones that are truly outrageous or frightening.

Nightmares are the best. I love the relief when you wake up and realise it wasn't real.

Come close? Generally speaking if I do realise I'm dreaming in a dream, it surprises the **** out of me and I just wake up.

I do get nasty sleep paralysis though - at least that's what I think it is? Generally speaking something incredibly unpleasant will happen in a dream and I'll wake up but not fully. Most people just seem to claim they can't move but not only can I not move but I still feel only half awake somehow. It's the sky high heartrate once I snap out of it that really gets me distressed.

Lucid dreaming is ace. Best tip I an give is repeatedly count your fingers before you go to bed. The number of fingers on ones hand during a dream is rarely accurate, and counting your fingers before bed makes it more likely that you'll try to count them in the dream world. Once you realise that you hve more than 5 fingers in your dream, then the Lucid dream will begin, and the world is you oyster.

Yeah, I have. They don't last long, and even though I'm aware, I do seem to be limited in what I can do - I can just fly or whatever.

Are you being sarcastic? I get sleep paralysis, and it's the most horrible thing imaginable.

Nope. I love how scary it is, and then when the relief when you realise it wasn't real. Better than watching any horror film :p:

Yeah, this is what the videos suggested so I'm gonna start trying it.

I totally missed that in the original post and am now mortified.

OP, please enlighten me as to how you could possibly find it pleasant in any way. I think it's about as pleasurable as I'd imagine having someone unexpectedly shove a cold glass rod up your backside to be.

I can't snap out of sleep paralysis when I want to. Then I inevitably think I'm having trouble breathing, then panic sets in. It's horrible. When I wake up, I just feel exhausted and unpleasant.

Yea sleep paralysis is just freaky. Wanting to move and not being able to because of some imaginary weight holding me down just scares the **** out of me. And when it happens, I'll be like a walking zombie for the rest of the day, too exhausted to do anything.

I often have a hook instead of a hand.

Better than endless wet dreams about Maggie's Thatch though, amirite L i b?
I can lucid dream quite easily. It just takes practice.

I remember one where I was at a friends house, and we got into his car and then it went round the corner at about 10x normal speed, then everything stood still and zoomed in on this demon type thing and I couldn't do anything, then it went back to me and my friend in the car and went really fast again until the car was about to hit it, then I could just see the thing's eyes looking into mine, then the car hit it, and then I snapped out of it :eek3:

It was scary, but after I just thought, "awesome"
