as part of a debating team, we have been given the motion: "This house
would re-nationalise the railways". It'd be great if people could
discuss both sides of this motion. We are thinking of the economic,
social and philosophical reasons of our debate and we would really
appreciate help. e-mail if you wish ([email protected]) dan

Ooo, what an exciting motion....the ESU comp sucks anyway, they get
local people in to judge who don't have a clue about proper debating
style and often make the wrong decisions. If you're in London you'll
probably be okay, if you're in the sticks I wouldn't bother.

Why are you so against the mace debate? Its harmless and I think that all debates help to fine tune your skills, my experience of the mace debate was positive with good arguments and fair judging. He may well have a boring topic, but all debates cant be thrilling and part of the talent of the speaker should be making people interested. It is also a fresh topic that has alot of press and public attention at the moment making it relevant for this type of compittion. I wish him good luck with his debate and hope he ignores comments like yours.
