Ooo, what an exciting motion....the ESU comp sucks anyway, they get
local people in to judge who don't have a clue about proper debating
style and often make the wrong decisions. If you're in London you'll
probably be okay, if you're in the sticks I wouldn't bother.

Why are you so against the mace debate? Its harmless and I think that all debates help to fine tune your skills, my experience of the mace debate was positive with good arguments and fair judging. He may well have a boring topic, but all debates cant be thrilling and part of the talent of the speaker should be making people interested. It is also a fresh topic that has alot of press and public attention at the moment making it relevant for this type of compittion. I wish him good luck with his debate and hope he ignores comments like yours.
