Yeah, where did this guy get the plot idea?
I'll have to look for it a bit, though. I think I was reading it at a birthday party or something.

Richenda: Never heard of Kaki King.

As for the book... not really sure what to make of it. It starts off brilliantly, but in the end I just got fed up of the protagonist, who's a bit useless. Worth reading if you worked your way through the first chronicles, but... you're not missing much if you don't read this series.

Cool, although I have no idea when that might be :p:. And no problem .
The summer, muppet

Are we meeting up this summer...?

A couple of days ago, I bought a book called 'French Revolutions' by Tim Moore. Apparently, its kind of like a travelouge where the author cycles the course of the Tour de France. The Suday times says its 'the funniest book on sport ever written'. Has anybody else read it?

 I'm staying with Dave in Canterbury for a fair amount of time. Unless you particularly wish for me to not see you, then yes I assume so. All of this was mentioned when you were here :p:

How's term going? :s-smilie:

Psssh, you know what my memory's like. Sounds like fun, then! Why wouldn't I want to see you?

Term's going well so far thanks. Spent most of it learning sign language - it's so much fun! It's going to be so useful later on... I hope so, anyway lol.
I was wondering whether anyone had read George Orwell's Down and Out in Paris and London - it looks really good to be, but i don't know if I'll like it as I didn't like any of his other stuff. So, if anyone has read it and could tell me what they think of it...

I've only read 'Animal Farm' by George Orwell. I thought it was brilliant. I might be reading 1984 soon, its supposed to be his classic. I've heard of Down and Out in Paris and London, but I don't know if its any good.

Sarcastic Pratchet Fan, notice my new signature?

I generally don't get on with books that have anything other than good plot lines to them. I'm not one for literal symbolism and/or discussions of a political nature - that stuff just bores me to tears. I admire the use of language to an extent, but I'm pretty much in it to find out if he ever gets with her, how he does it, and if he saves the world while doing so :p:.

Or vice-versa, gender wise, for all ye feminists out there :p:.
Animal Farm has a good plot :dontknow:

Not really :p:.

Animal Farm has a good plot :dontknow:

it doesn't really have a good plot - it has a plot which makes a good point about the inevitable failure of socialism

:ditto:

Never really got the bit about socialism though. I wasn't a very bright 15 yr old :p:.

Things don't change, it seems .

Hmm...I think it talks more about the failure of the hypocritical Stalinist regime rather than socialism. Take 'Snowball' or whatever his name is to be the true socialist, the revolutionary, and the other pig as a "socialist" socialist, like Stalin.
