Just wanted to ask, is it worth taking a GAP year for medicine to get into a preferred uni, or should I stick with whatever I get? I haven't applied to unis I want to go to for medicine (2024 entry), but I am also scared that next year will be more competitive, and that I might lose my chance.
Hey there, thanks for posting a question in the Medicine forum.
The Medicine forum gets a high volume of questions being posted, and some of these are already answered by the resources and Megathreads that members of the community and volunteers have created. This is an automatic post which is designed to highlight these resources. Below is a list of threads and articles that could answer your question (you should be looking in the original post of the megathreads). If one of the below threads is a more relevant place to ask your question, please post a reply in that thread to ask your question. If your query is answered by one of the Megathreads or articles linked below, and you would like us to close this thread for you, please reply to this thread with just the words "thank you". A member of our team will then get it locked.

Do you have an offer for medicine already?
If so then generally it's advisable to take it. Ultimately medical school is a rather small part of your overall career as a doctor, and the barrier to entry is getting into medical school, rather than completing it. Therefore taking the offer when you get it is usually the best advice unless for some reason you think you would be unable or unwilling to complete the course at that medical school (in which case why did you apply there in the first place?), as it is essentially impossible to transfer medical schools once you start.
If you don't have an offer for medicine and have an offer for another course but want to do medicine, it's generally advisable to take a gap year and reapply to medicine rather than start (and/or finish) another unrelated degree and apply for medicine as a graduate.
