Anyone know where I can find the 6th OVA of Fairy Tail which was released yesterday in sub format, can't find it anywhere.
Read the manga chapter for it (awesome!) and wanna see it in anime form. XD

Not a bad selection IMO - Trigun is a series I heard and saw recommended all the time when I first got into anime, though these days less people seem to have watched the 90s classics. Ga-Rei -Zero- isn't as well known as the others, but personally I think it's awesome, and the first episode is especially memorable. Lastly, K-ON! should provide some variation from the plot and action of the other two. That's the kind of screening I liked to see in my uni's society, a good mix of old and new anime of different genres, and not just the really popular stuff that most fans will have seen already.

Aberystwyth Anime Soc met from 6:30 PM until 9 PM twice a week, though a lot of us showed up at 6 PM to socialise before the screening itself, then went to the pub after until midnight, so it was usually 12 hours out of my week. Didn't affect me at all, I just planned my work around it, even at Masters level. So unless your course is ridiculously intensive, I doubt 4 hours a week will make any difference at all. :nah:

How many people were in your anime society?

I think I can safely say that another sub forum for anime will not happen.

Does anyone believe anime will pick up in the west anytime in the future among people 16+?

I've also been accepted to uni this year, definitely will be checking out my anime society there too. It'd be nice to make some friends IRL who are as into it as I am so that I can cosplay/go to cons with them  I currently only have my brother to go to cons with :/ My best friend watches anime as well but he only watches a few series here and there, not really into it. I'm also lucky to be going to a uni which has a Go society -- always wanted to try out the game since I'm a huge fan of Hikaru no Go :^_^:

I'm on episode 24 of the series, I only learnt it was such a long anime in the middle of my exams.

It varied hugely from year to year. In my first year, I think there were just over 100 members on paper, though only ~30 of us showed up to the first social, and the number slowly decreased over the weeks as people made other friends and commitments (or if they decided they didn't like what was being shown). :p: There was probably a core group of 10 people, and a few others who came and went.

I think the soc was at its most active in my third year of undergrad, or during my masters year, when there were a good 20 people dedicated enough to go to the late night socials, and sometimes up to twice that many in the screening itself. Not bad for a small town university, though I'm sure that it's nothing compared with bigger universities. :giggle:

I believe so, but the capital is ridiculously hard to get to from North Wales by public transport - I have to go through Shrewsbury to get there by train, and if I'm crossing the border anyway, might as well go to an expo in the Midlands instead. :p:

I'm watching a lot at the moment - the full list of everything I have on the go is here, though the summarised version would be Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Honey and Clover and eighteen ongoing series, my favourites of which are Attack on Titan, Genshiken Nidaime and Hunter x Hunter. Manga-wise, the same situation. I'm mostly reading After School Nightmare, Letter Bee and Here is Greenwood at the moment, but am collecting a total of twenty series.

Having your favourite series in your sig is a great idea! It could promote discussion about them, or make it easier for people to recommend you similar anime and manga if you'd like. I used to do that... but then my Top 5 became a Top 50, so I thought I'd switch to a list of what I've watched recently instead.

I see. Thanks . You could always link to an external list of your anime

So many interesting looking series, so little free time... I know the feeling. :p: I've limited my A-P want to watch list to just the stuff I already have downloaded or on DVD, ready and waiting to be watched, and even then it's 70 titles. No doubt there would be hundreds more if I included shows I don't have but would like to. :giggle:

It's does nothing for productivity does it? Doesn't help when my attention span finds it hard to watch TV without just wanting to get up and go for a walk.

I've pretty much got to the point whereas so long as it has more than 2.5 stars and doesn't sound awful then it's on the to-watch list  Haven't even put on any manga yet :x

Yes.

First anime... probably The Moomins and/or Willy Fog, though my memories of the early 90s aren't great, and I can't say for certain how many episodes I watched of either, so I've not included them in my lists. Certainly didn't know they were anime until quite recently, either. :p: Then I got caught up in the Pokemon craze in secondary school, but again I didn't really differentiate between that and other 'cartoons', aside from the fact that I could openly admit to liking this one without classmates calling me childish.

The manga series Chobits is what I consider to be my first proper step into anime/manga fandom, however, as by then (aged 17, and still a closet fan of animation in general) I bought the first three volumes knowing that they were distinctly different in style from western comics (and printed 'backwards'). :p: I wish I could remember the first anime I watched after this point... I *think* it was either the first episodes of Love Hina, or the Ghibli film Princess Mononoke, but I can't be sure since at the time I was buying loads on DVD, and not making detailed lists the way I do now. :giggle:

I'm afraid I've not seen any other those, with exception of anime.
What genre do you like? I particularly like supernatural series.
I enjoyed psychic academy, mahou negima sensei, inuyasha, flame of recca and ranma 1/2 amongst others!!

Define 'pick up'? In the US, its popularity among teenagers and young adults is considerably higher than Europe. However, in comparison with Asia and obviously Japan, it's not remotely close.

It's highly unlikely anime will ever garner comparable interest in the west because it's ultimately intended for Japanese audiences and accordingly will remain largely a niche outside the country. Places like South Korea and Taiwan bear similarities culturally to Japan (somewhat) and therefore their interest in anime will be slightly higher.

I don't really have a favourite genre, though I tend to prefer anything with action or a good plot to slice of life/comedy series. Even then though, I'll try and pick up one or two light-hearted anime every season for some variation. Or in the case of the current anime season, pick up mostly comedy series as there's not much else on offer. :p:

Well, I guess I'm an anomaly then, not Japanese, not even Asian and I would say 80% of what I watch is anime. =l
Currently getting ready for the annual trip to Reading next weekend. A weekend without internet access is always hard on the nerves, but hopefully I'll have anime at least, assuming its not too hot for my retired laptop to function. :p: I know it struggles with MKV files, especially HD ones, and it won't play 10 bit video at all, so I'll take it as an opportunity to watch some of the many 'older' series that have been lying on my hard drive for years. DVDs sadly aren't an option - the disc drive has had it. :sadnod:

Will be taking the following series with me; doubt I'll watch even half of them, but it's nice to have a selection, as I don't know what I'll feel like watching in a week's time.

Banner of the Stars II - Love this franchise!

Chobits - My first manga series, as I mentioned a few posts back, but I never did watch the anime...

Jinki;Extend - Evangelion clone~

Kaidan Restaurant - Light-hearted ghost stories, not expecting a masterpiece, but it should be fun!

Kaze no Stigma - Can't remember when/why I downloaded this, but it sounds half-decent.

Myself;Yourself - Was recommended it by an anime fan I met on a Jobseeker's course a year and a half ago!

Oban Star Racers - Will be watching this English dubbed, since I can't find it French with subs.

Secret of Cerulean Sand - One of the few steampunk anime series.

Sisters of Wellber Zwei - Watched the first series a few months ago, it wasn't bad.

Space Symphony Maetel - Watched Maetel Legend years ago, it was pretty good!

The Third - A recommendation from a former Aberanime president, his favourite series.

Ulysses 31 - Again, will be watching this in English. I was born slightly too late to catch this on UK TV as a child.
