Aqa june 2008. I'm stuck on question 3diii) I think it's supposed to be easy but my brain has gone blank Explain why it is 36 someone please? I have to know before the exam.
Ehm guys this is a simple question, for you guys anyways.

If you have like (64a^12)^3/4

Ignore the 64.

Does the power of a get divided by the denominator, in this case 4 then multipled by 3.

If so, does this work for all of these types of indice questions?

And what happens if you have the exact problem but a negative fractional power.

works for most indices but not all im afraid
negative fractional power u just reverse the fraction

Well I'm guessing you will have found the maximum x value from the previous part; just substitute this into the equation for "V"

I feel you. My eyes are bleeding, I never want to see another M2 paper again after tomorrow.
This is not really about a hard question but more about how to answer the question, if you have to differentiate an equation should you leave it unsimplified or simplified because some years they accepted both but some years wanted simplified or unsimplified but it doesn't mention in the actual question whether you should or not???

Sorry if that didn't make any sense :s-smilie:
