I'm getting that too when I do it.

edit: actually wait no, don't the limits start as 1 to 0 and then because of the minus they switch so 0 to 1 with a positive sign?

edit again: I started from the given parametric formula in the booklet so that the limits were 0 to pi/2 rather than pi/2 to 0 but I don't see why the manner in which you changed them from x could possibly be wrong

You have your limits the wrong way around, they want it from 0 to alpha so by switching limits the two negatives cancel

Switching which limits??

Also on my last line the upper limit looks like a 10 when it should be a 1

The integration is carried out between 0 and pi/2, and according to the substitution c will be 1 and 0 respectively. Since they want it in the form of an integral from 0 to alpha, you have to switch the limits which helps you cancel that pesky negative

..

I think the issue may be that when you switched the variable to start with (from x to theta, not theta to c) your dx/dtheta was negative but this negative sign doesn't appear
So at that point you should have a negative and then it switches to go from 0 to pi/2 instead of pi/2 to 0.

ah, ok, thanks

If i was in the real exam i probably would have just fudged it though
how would you simplify (x2-1)n +(x2-1)n-1?

factorize the bracket in its lowest power

Factor the expression to the n-1.
So it becomes x^2(x^2-1)^N-1

Can someone help me with question 8 for the june 14 R paper?

I don't understand why they have changed the signs from -2i-11j+5k to 2i+11j-5k

Also for the second part of the question it only works if in the first part you eliminated the X variable and I don't understand why?

Why are some of the mark schemes like this? Makes it almost completely unreadable.

June 13 - I've seen it quite a few times. Perhaps it's my computer somehow?

Seems so.. this is how the same markscheme looks on my computer, I get my past papers from phsyicsandmathstutor.com so perhaps there is some weird formatting going on for yours :frown: pmt.PNG
