You break them down into a product of primes, then multiply the primes (as surds), and then you will get your answer.

just make a list of square numbers...
1,4,9,16,25,36,49,64,81,100 etc
look for which of them go into the big number...
75 = 15*5
neither of those is a square
75 = 25*3
one is a square
so √75 = √25*√3
so √75 = 5*√3

This is alright, but for larger surds, breaking it down into prime factors is always the way to go, not only is it quicker, but it will always give you the right answer if you do it properly
