Poverty Porn. Opinions????

Hi peeps, want to know your opinions on tv shows like benefits britain: life on the dole, benefits street, jaywick, can't pay we'll take it away.
I love these shows lol. The amount of trash I see is mind blowing. I do not understand how people can live like this and not make the effort to get a job or put themselves in financial ruin.

To quote Henry George:
"There is, and always has been, a widespread belief among the more comfortable classes that the poverty and suffering of the masses are due to their lack of industry, frugality, and intelligence. This belief, which at once soothes the sense of responsibility and flatters by its suggestion of superiority, is probably even more prevalent in countries like the United States, where all men are politically equal, and where, owing to the newness of society, the differentiation into classes has been of individuals rather than of families, than it is in older countries, where the lines of separation have been longer, and are more sharply, drawn. It is but natural for those who can trace their own better circumstances to the superior industry and frugality that gave them a start, and the superior intelligence that enabled them to take advantage of every opportunity, to imagine that those who remain poor do so simply from lack of these qualities.
But whoever has grasped the laws of the distribution of wealth, as in previous chapters they have been traced out, will see the mistake in this notion. The fallacy is similar to that which would be involved in the assertion that every one of a number of competitors might win a race. That any one might is true; that every one might is impossible."

Absolute load of rubbish. While I dislike the people, the dole keeps a lot of them out of crime and they don't cost much, probably costs more to produce those programs. They bring the kids in it all too, like at least give them some dignity

I dont know... to be pregnant for 9 months and go into labour just for benefits that barely pays out anything doesn't make sense but apparently its what they do... I dont buy it but hey, if benefits is encouraging population growth in an ageing country, what's the big deal?
Lowering the morale of the UK citizens,
making our country seem like 3rd world trash.
Do you watch bum fights?

Why am I so out of breath?

I'm sure some people do
Its entertainment for the rich metropolitan elite, who don't understand the concerns of real white working class Britons that voted for Brexit like Nigel Farage, Daily Mail and Theresa May do.
I like the shows. They are not amazing but it is interesting to see how people live. It does really provoke an emotional reaction one way or another. I don't get annoyed that they live off the state but not have empathy either.

I love watching all those shows too because it makes me realise how lucky I am to live in an area where I have lots of interesting places to go and it's not a dull area and I have lots of shops, shopping malls, etc and a clean home
Some of these people's homes are filthy, I don't know how they can go on tv
But I laugh about it all and I never get angry that some people don't want to work, why should they work for pittance and zero hour contracts when they will be worse off by working because it will all be taken by tax anyway and their left with nothing after paying the bills.

I love can't pay, we'll take it away too. I laugh so hard at how stupid these people are for opening their doors or parking their cars nearby or outside their homes when they know they owe money for debts.
If your in debt for anything you never answer your door to anyone and Tell friends and family to ring or text first if they want to visit so you know it's them at the door and not the bailiffs
But the worst one I've seen on that show is women who split up with their partners or husband's then take them to court for useless possessions just to get back at them and the men have to pay £6,000 for court fees, bailiffs fees, etc
I think that's a disgusting thing to do to anyone so in terms of women being evil, yes, some of them are.
But Even if you're angry at an ex partner that's a horrible thing to do to someone and to be in fear that if you can't afford to pay it your possessions will be taken away.

Yes, I've seen that, I don't like it as much as all the other benefit shows but it's ok to watch. I watch all the benefits shows because I think it's funny and because it makes me realise how lucky I am not to live in their areas.
I also love Celebrities On Benefits where they showed Lisa Appleton who was on Big Brother many years ago with her husband but after Big Brother ended she got divorced and ended up penniless and living in a horrible, tiny one bedroom flat.
It was such a shock to see her on benefits show and living in poverty struggling to make ends meet, it was really sad. Especially when they showed her washing her clothes in the kitchen sink and going to the gym to use their shower because she had no hot water. But she was on it trying to revive her career and she's in the newspapers a lot now posing in her underwear or going on other TV shows and writing a book. She's trying anyway to get famous again.
I like her, I think she's funny
If you type Lisa Appleton on Google or You Tube you will see who I mean or if it doesn't come up you might have to add Big Brother after her name or type her name and Celebrities on Benefits if you never saw that show before
I also love the show about ordinary people on benefits trying to become famous by trying to become actors and trying to become musicians

Tonight at 10pm channel 5 Bankrupt and Broke: When Celebs Go Broke
If everyone doesn't see this on time try to watch repeat show because I only saw it was on today on my TV guide mag when I got home at 8pm
Reminds me of the underclass
I think it's BS aimed at deliberately stirring up resentment towards the poor. I have nothing against a lil' bit of trash (I live on trashy shoujo) but when it's so overtly political I can't really turn a blind eye. Non-sexual "porn" TV is generally annoying in any case - shows like Child Genius are intelligence porn, for example - but at least that stuff isn't political.
