No Viking studies at Nottingham?

Looks like Nottingham only offer it at postgraduate level.

No idea. If that's the era of history you want to study, your best bet is to trawl through History and Medieval History (and possibly History with Archaeology) courses looking for unis which specialise in the topics in which you are interested. York might be one such example.

A lot of the Viking modules are still available in Nottingham's English BA / English and History BA. I suggest you look carefully at the module options and see if you can construct a degree that has enough Viking/Medieval stuff to satisfy you. It wouldn't be a bad idea to contact Judith Jesch and ask her for advice. @Anndee Any idea why the degree was withdrawn?

When you say you can't apply to UCL because you have a 4, do you mean GCSE or IB? As far as I know, UCL doesn't require English at A level/IB, if you are close to meeting the entry requirements then I strongly advise you phone the admissions officer and talk it over with them. It is a niche degree, they may be prepared to lower their reqs for someone who demonstrates genuine passion for the subject.

I don't now exactly why it was withdrawn but the modules are all still available either as core or optional modules when you do a BA English Studies. I second the suggestion to contact Judith Jesch. Potentially, you could also do joint honours, either English and Archaeology or English and History and thus take the modules that were part of Viking Studies, as it was basically a joint degree, with English the lead and core modules from History and Archaeology. I really enjoyed doing it and find it a big shame it is no longer available for like-minded students. It also led me into a really good career (I find).

As for Highlands & Islands, we don't have a "Viking" undergrad as such, but the Centre for Nordic Studies offers the BA in Culture, Heritage and Archaeology, which has quite a few Vikingy modules ( https://www.uhi.ac.uk/en/courses/ba-hons-culture-heritage-and-archaeology ), and then you could obviously move on for the MLitt Viking Studies.

I think before making any choices, it's important that you check out all the different programmes and their focus, some are more linguistic, some more archaeological or focus on history, and that can lead into very different careers or postgrads. I thought they got rid of medieval studies at st Andrews. However I think they have medieval history with English. That covers some medieval modules. I think I will do that. I think it will cost money to retake a GCSE that I already have. Though I will consider that an option if I can get some money together . Thank you very much. Are you doing a Viking course then?
