I have a fair n-sided die and a fair m-sided die,(m>n), what is the probability that when rolled both dice shows the same number? (pls explain working)

The scores on the dice are independent, so the probabilities can be worked out independently.

Let ωi \omega_i be the elementary event "scoring i on the n sided die", i{1,2,3,4...,n} i \in \{1,2,3,4...,n \} then P(ωi)=1n,iN,inP(\omega_i) = \frac{1}{n}, \forall i \in \mathbb{N}, i \leq n

It is similar for the m sided die.

Then if you make it analogous to numerical values it's pretty obvious.
