"Extinction Rebellion" Protest results in man unable to reach his dying father

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/man-couldnt-past-extinction-rebellion-18334504

For a brief time, I supported this movement, but an event like this was always going to be inevitable. They are shameless. They are continuing their protests, not even suspending them out of respect. The UK government is already committed to tackling climate change, far more than any other I know off. Why don't they protest in countries that actually will suffer the most from climate change and aren't doing enough?

What do you mean?

And they're only protesting in first world countries, which are doing the most to tackle climate change. Why don't I see any Extinction Rebellion Protests in India or sub saharan Africa?
Isn't causing inconvenience to make progressive change their whole deal. Like if you wanted the man to reach his dying father then they should change the law or it'll happen again kind of thing.

As in governments are doing **** all so the UK contribution is not exactly stunning.

There's climate protests across the globe. Whether or not theyre to do with this specific movement is a different matter but i can assure you people in every country from Britain to Russia to India to China object to pollution etc.
As for Sub-Saharan Africa? Probably because theyre in a mixture of famines/civil war etc.

Perhaps something to do with how 20 countries make up 80% of global CO2 emissions, and sub Saharan Africa are precisely none of those countries (granted, India are one of those 20): https://www.ucsusa.org/global-warming/science-and-impacts/science/each-countrys-share-of-co2.html

Like I already said, they are idiots. Last time I checked, the UK CO2 levels are going down since the 19th century and they keep on going down, why don't they protest in countries that actually contribute a lot of CO2 like China, India and the good old USA?

Disagree about China. I used to say the same thing, but you should realise how much China has actually done to combat global warming. I mean, it's actually so hard to get a car in China

Don't call them socialists, because they're not. I am a socialist. These people are liberals. Please learn the difference.

People in sub saharan africa have lots and lots of children, which doesn;t help. Many of these countries like nigeria will be some of the most populated countries in the world, and as they develop, will begin to have acccess to some of the products we use and as they industralise, they will produce much more CO2, but will be behind us in having measures that reduce CO2, and so will cause more. They are also the countries most likely to be effected by climate change.
So because something slightly unfortunate happened climate change is no longer a problem?

No, something unfortunate happened that showed the inconvenience these morons cause to people who can’t address their grievance

Calling them 'shameless' is wrong. They are thoughtful and intelligent people who have ethics.

Any form of protest that hits home and is effective is going to disrupt some people, sometimes in bad circumstances - this is true for example of transport strikes.

Sometimes the only way forward is to make protests felt. Other means have not worked in persuading governments that the global climate emergency is something requiring immediate and major action.

This is a sad story, but it has to be measured against the need to protest against the greatest threat to humanity and our fellow species on earth.

You don't know that.

Your argument makes no sense. The developed world including the UK are overwhelmingly the greatest source of CO2 emissions.

Again, the top producers of carbon emissions are developed countries - the G8 countries are responsible for 31% of all emissions, China are responsible for 28%. The impact of several children families in sub-saharan africa is negligible, not to mention that as these countries develop, birth rates invariably go down because that number of children isn't needed any more

I mean it's a protest... it would be fairly useless it wasn't inconvenient wouldn't it...

If they insist on inconveniencing people how about the people who actually have the power to do what they want?

It's 'fairly useless' anyway and that's being generous. It's funny that the same people who moan about how big businesses control the government are likely the same people who seem to think that causing a nuisance will change government policy.

Oh, but it does!
