Hey guys quick question. You know for a carboxylic acid, theres a broad peak? Well whats the difference between a peak and a broad peak? Im always unsure if its a carboxylic acid or an alcohol. THANK YOUUU

The carboxylic acid broad peak is much bigger than the O-H one in alcohols which spreads over only about 100-200cm^-1. The O-H bonds in carboxylic acids peaks at about 3600 and may stretch back to 2500. Therefore much much broader than the O-H peak of alcohols.

Might sound like a stupid question, but at the front of papers it says to use a black pen, does that mean if we get a diagram we should do it in pen or pencil? im not sure if the papers get scanned through to examiners so wasnt sure what to do ?

How do you produce HI from phosphorus?

What about HBr? Do we just use a metal halide and H2So4, or is there another method?

i think if your using P when you add to I2 it would give you PI3 ?
SO WONT YOU NEED SOMETHING LIKE H20 TO make HI ?
