Mechanical Engineering books/course content

Hi all,

I'm looking to go to Coventry university, with my insurance choice as MMU. I'll be studying mechanical engineering and I'm looking to get ahead of the game a little bit. My maths isn't the best, so I want to see if I can get any revision underway for the first term or so.

I did email the universities, but they aren't ready to release their reading lists just yet. So if anyone is doing those courses, could they suggest some books for me to have a look through to get started? A main emphasis is on the maths concepts, but the first term modules would be great.

The course is fairly standardised, so the following should just be the generalised concepts for that year:

•Manufacturing Technology and Materials
•Mechanical Science
•Design
•Engineering Mathematics
•Engineering Applications
•Electrical Science
•Module selected from Advantage list

Could you suggest anything? Coventry will provide the core textbooks, so I'm not bothered about getting everything... Just the basics. I'm not sure which order the course is structued in though.

Cheers!
