Human Female Breast Structure

Hi, I've got an unusual question here regarding the anatomy of the female breast. It is regarding the nipple, I always assumed that the nipple was part of the skin, but having seen Gunther Von Hagen's skinned female cadavers on the internet, it appears that they still have plump, engorged looking nipples on their breasts even though they have obviously been stripped of their skin. Is the nipple structure underneath the skin?
