Draw a right angled triangle

Label an angle as x

Label the 2 sides you know are 3 and 5

Find the other side

Write down Tan(x) and Cos(x)

Write down Tan(x) and Cos(x)

so cosx = 4/5
tanx = 5/4 ?
if sinx is obtuse what should I do then?

Then you have to consider that sin(x) would be +ve but that cos(x) and tan(x) would be -ve

Sorry?

Not sure what you are asking

Firstly, you can have negative angles

Secondly, no - I said that Cosx and Tanx would be negative

I still dont understand how to do it, how do you get a negative number when all the sides are positive?

You asked about an obtuse angle

Have you done any work this year on obtuse angles, using the trig graphs or the CAST diagram

Or can you recall this work from GCSE

Then you will probably deal with obtuse, reflex, and negative angles next

I can

And to do so well I would usually take a double lesson

So, wait until you cover this in class
