They keep changing the Deaneries so I lose track of which hospitals are in which bit of the Deanery... but I worked at Worcester for a year and loved it. Looks like an airport from the outside. Generally busy jobs, vascular surgery is a particularly busy surgical job with a 4-bed HDU. Busy acute med dept, but really friendly staff who are supportive. I don't know if it is still the case now, but a few years ago each medical team had their own nurse practitioner who was a real help to the juniors. When I was there, most of the FY1s moved to Worcester for the year, some living in hospital accommodation and others down the hill in Worcester - but this meant that we would often go out for dinner / out together and there was a good team atmosphere, and we used to do a lot with the junior pharmacists as well. I know that some years, there is a higher proportion of people who commute from Birmingham and that can make it a bit more soulless to be living in Worcester when people aren't around in the evening. It's a beautiful town with lots of little quirky shops and the Malvern Hills are a short distance away (great walking). Worcester's hospital accommodation is really pretty good - flats with three ensuite bedrooms sharing a kitchen, used to be about £400/month a few years back, only downside is there is no living room so you end up sitting in your room or in the kitchen.
Not so sure about Redditch (Alexandra) - I did 6 weeks there as a student, and generally hear not so great things about it, but don't have personal experience of working there, and I know there are people who like it. All the A&E consultants quit en masse recently (there was something on the BBC about it). It's quite out in the middle of nowhere - not as rural as Hereford, but is out of Redditch town. It had a good cafe when I was there. Slightly different clientele to the posher Hereford / Worcester bunch.
