I can't help you with your question, but could you do please type correctly, e.g. 'something' rather than 'sumfin'.
Not only would this be nice for me and everyone else who reads your posts, it will stop you from recieving warnings from the moderators.

Sorry I can't help with your question though.

Nobody received a warning, I'm just saying if you continue to type using 'text-speak' type abbreviations, you will receive one.

Roffle...

That was a typo rather than a deliberate attempt to shorten words. I think you understand me. I'm not trying to be picky, I'm just trying to help you!

Are u serious they give warnings for words like "sumfin"! I find it desperately hard to understand some posts in here! Maybe thats just me, i'll do something about it... you like it! Thanks for the heads up!

And my original question still stands- any word on the PPE course at Durham??

I'm serious! Hehe.

Have you asked in the social sciences sub forum under university courses? Someone might be able to help you in there.

I haven't heard anything about this. That's probably because there isn't one official PPE department in Durham; rather, the philosophy department claims to be the 'leading' one, in the sense that it handles all the PPE related admin and coordinates the course. Ideally, the three separate departments should work closer together to deliver more overall cohesion to the course here at Durham. In this respect, universities such as York (with its 'PEP School') and Warwick (which has a broader focus on inter-disciplinary modules in the third year) have an upper hand for PPE.

Having said this, the course content at the top universities that offer PPE does not differ widely, so when it comes to actually comparing them, I personally don't think we're looking at vast differences. Furthermore, there has been a wider push from this year's PPEists to highlight these issues, which has been demontsrated by the creation of Durham's frst PPE specific student society - such enthusiastic student involvement in matters related to the course may yet bring about changes.

My first year here has certainly been enjoyable, but as with most other courses, the final output depends on how much work you're prepared to put in!

But studying three different courses must be challenging?

As with any other course, we study 6 modules per year. This means that in your first year, you would do two core modules from each discipline, and in the second and third years you have more choice as to what you wish to specialise in, although certain core aspects, such as macro and microeconomics, have to remain. I suppose it is challenging if you assume that the core modules are the more difficult ones in a given discipline... That's probably a matter of opinion though.
I should think that studying a combined course would be easier than a single subject... if you're doing more than one subject you wouldn't study any subject in much depth, unlike studying only one...

Unless all three courses are taught in great depth.
Which they won't be as you only do 2 modules of each a year, as opposed to 6...

Oh yes, I see now.

But you're assuming here that depth equates difficulty, which is not necessarily the case. One glance through the social sciences resits list suggests that the majority of failed modules are core ones, with the extension, single honours orientated modules (which apparently add depth to one's study) being in the minority.
Well I still reckon combined courses are easier. Most of the failed social sciences people are from Stockton anyway.
