Is PPE more prestigious than Political Economy at KCL?

I don’t know much about Philosophy so I wanted to do the Political Economy course at KCL. However PPE is a very famous course that is almost in every university while only KCL has a course that is called Political Economy. So I was wondering if studying PPE would be better than studying Political economy? Especially in regards to applying to finance jobs.

Philosophy is a very important part of politics which is useful to understand when looking at how governments should be run. With that being said, at most unis which offer PPE, you can drop one of the three subjects to leave more room for the others. I expect Political Economy to be very similar to PPE just without its philosophical underpinnings as you begin.

So are they considered to be just as prestigious as each other? Or should I go for PPE?

Usually it depends on the modules you choose to take. Got an offer for King's political economy too - the module list is where you want to look. I'd say both are equally as prestigious.

PPE is more prestigious IMO. Political economy just sounds like you read the news 🤣

How does the system of dropping one of the three subjects in PPE work? I am plannign to apply to KCL for PPE but my math skills are not the best, and the second year has a course in econometrics. I am of course planning to take extra classes and work hardest on economics due to my poor math, but I was wondering if theres some way I can get more information on how math heavy the course is.

in second year this is only one mandatory module & it is basically a blend of all three principles. aside from that, all modules are optional so the way you 'drop' a discipline is by basically not choosing any modules to do with it.

PPE is mainly famous because of Oxford's course. Because of this, people think it's a generally prestigious course, which means there's a grade premium to study it versus close substitutes like politics and economics dual honours courses.

If it's not at Oxford, I wouldn't get sucked into the whole prestige debate. Finance firms don't really care what subject you study (unless it's for roles which have an obvious need for a specific background), it's more about the university, so they definitely won't care about the distinction between PPE vs Political Economy. Just do what you think you would enjoy most.
