Not sure yet. Leaning towards yes rather than no, though.

Do you support it? I am in favour of it because its about time decisions were made in the North West for the North West and not in London.

Um,

Is there only a North West assembly or an Assembly for every other region too?

What exactly would they have powers to do though?

Not saying I'm against it, just wondering if the powers they'd have makes the sutup and running costs worthwhile...

Basicaly the North West would still have the same amount of funding but we would say what the money is spent on and not out of touch people living in London.

It would work in the same way the welsh assembly does. Other regions won't get it, although I have heared of a talk of a North East one. The main reason the North West needs it is its a huge econony (Manchester and Liverpool alone are very important) so critcial decisions should not be made in Whitehall.

I am not fully aware of the facrs myself yet but I am looking into it. I will research it tonight and post more details when I find them.

I think one of the biggest ideas of it is to try and cut down the north south divide.

Well, surely then every region should have its own assembly, creating a state system, like in america.

Wales has little power in its assembly and in both the devolved areas of scotland and wales little has been done as there have not been strong governments. Having said this, a new assembly would be created which would have little power and in turn do not a lot appart from waste money through the extra level of buerocracy.
Im not sure to be honest.

The changes made in Wales and Scotland to university tuition fees would probably be considered more than a "little" by many people on this forum.

Bloody hell, what next? Give those Vikings up north local democracy and we might as well raise the Red Flag now and start speaking Russian!

Terrible, terrible idea. Only a gay mafia Scottish-dominated Labour Government would want to break England into small pieces like this.

Why are people in the north more communist please do explane.

Because they're poor.

Do you have any evidence to support that people in the north are more likely to support a communist regime or is this just your oppinion?

One person. there are loads of communists in London.

They're bloody bolshevik commie socialists! Where do you think Labour's heartlands are? "By 'heck it's grim up 'orth"

Southern Nancy
If the assembly is made up exclusively of the current westminster MPs for the region then it sounds like a decent idea, otherwise you will just end up with second rate 'local council' quality MSP types like we have in the farce of a scottish parliment and pay more for the privilage of increased incompetent bureaucracy.

True - but I don't believe London has ever managed to elect and KEEP a council as left wing as Hatton's was for such a long long time.

I remember when Liverpool's council finally got back into the black financially about a decade after Hatton was thrown out - he had a long time to spend spend spend and did the city far more harm than good :frown:

London needs a bit of good old ethnic cleansing too.

Is there anywhere in london which is to you satisfaction? It seems like you will only be happy if everyon who doesn't agree with you leaves the country.
