Applied pulley question
Two particles of mass m1 and m2 are connected by an inextensible
string of negligible mass which passes over a frictionless pulley of negligible mass that
is suspended from a ceiling, as shown in Figure 2. The dangling masses are initially
held stationary both one metre below the pulley and then released to move vertically
up or down.
Calculate the subsequent acceleration of the particles and the tension
in the string.
