What matters more? Uni or department reputation?

Just thought I'd ask this and see what the general thought is on this.
I know that for some subjects such as law, both the reputation of the university and the department are important.
But for more vocational subjects such as performing arts, do you think this still rings true? Or does one matter more than the other?

They both matter of course. Personally, I'd say to choose a university which has the best department for your course but also at the same time has a decent/good reputation.

For vocational subjects it boils down to the course and how well it prepares you for the job (including links with the industry you want to join).
Depends really on A) how specialised the course/career is, and B) If you intend to go into said career or if you are planning on going into a career which is less prescriptive on degree topic.
