Do you agree with universities giving out honorary degrees?

Every year, universities award honorary degrees to celebrities or significant people. Meryl Streep has 3 honorary degrees from Ivy League, JK Rowling has amassed seven in 15 years.

Criticisms are abound over whether honorary degrees are the way to go for universities, with people asking what is the point of them.

Yes, they've contributed greatly to specific area's of society and we should recognise their work but are honorary degree's really the best way of doing this?
