Answer: The longest side of the triangle is can just be called the longest side but, in the case of a right-angled triangle we call it the hypotenuse!

Depends what kind of triangle it is.
"Known as" isn't congruent to the mathematically correct answer.

I feel like this would be waaaaay simpler if it was done on a chatting website, like, Discord, or Skype, or WhatsApp.
It would then be the WhatsApp pub Quiz, not the TSR pub quiz. I'm not changing the name.:shakecane:

On the European Continent - Iceland (Not Including Overseas Territories)
    Spoiler:
    Show

(Technically it would be France as they own French Guiana)
Technically it depends on how you measure it. Continent is a single land mass so Iceland would not be a part of it.

European country here excluded those countries who are controlled by another country (like Denmark and Greenland) or the example you gave.

That was the first book? Googling may not get you far... But my mum is the resident Narnia expert and she reckons that was the first book not film...
Ok I'm probably getting too competitive here
From research, Cair Paravel appears at the end of the first film.:yep:

Charn also features, although it is technically destroyed at this point. Points will be awarded for both answers.

    Hello all.:hello:

    Thanks for a great quiz.

I've decided to award half a point to anyone who got the right answer before I'd posted the next question. It's not entirely fair that some people's internet's are faster than others and I know how brutal timing can be in Forum games since I once posted something during the exact same second as someone else, whereby half of users saw me first, and the other half saw the other post first. First person to post still gets a full point though so it's worth posting in early.

Good quizzing by sammychu00, Labrador99 and BuzzyB73 :yy:

Special mention to Kindred for making me laugh the most, particularly this post:
    Spoiler:

Okay I need to go check on my cat and gets me that cloak. My guesses going forward are:

    Pineapple upside down cake
    Umbrella
    Duke of York
    Narnia
    International Space Station
    14
    Your mum (lovely lady btw)
    Nelson Mandela
    Antelope
    Narwhale

    in no particular order.

Answers to the questions can be found here:

    Spoiler:

    1. The longest side of a triangle is known as a hypotenuse. As Notnek rightly pointed out, that doesn't mean it is technically/mathematically a hypotenuse. But that is the common name for it.

    2. Sydney, Australia is +11 hours ahead of London, UK when London it operating using Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) or UTC+0

    3. Holy Chalice was the name given to the cup from which Jesus drank from at the Last Supper. The holy grail was already an object of significance before it became associated with this story, and the two objects intertwine in their mythology and are usually referred to as the same thing. But Holy Chalice has always been the name given to that cup as far as Medieval literature/tradition goes.

    4. Spectre is the 2015 bond movie for which Sam Smith sang the traditionally featured song.

    5. Iceland is the most Western country in Europe. Greenland (Denmark) and Guiana (French) are territories or countries controlled by European powers, which fall outside of Europe itself: but good answers all the same. Portugal and Ireland were also good attempts, but Iceland is more Western.

    6. Despite being born in the 17th century, Blackbeard took to the seas during the 18th century.

    7. Jackson Pollock painted No.5 1948. Andy Warhol would have been a good answer and I'm watching closely for anyone who may or may not have been tricked out by my wikipedia edit:hmmm:

    8. A cosmonaut is a Russian astronaut. This was challenged and I've responded in a comment above.

    9. Both Charn and Cair Paravel I was willing to accept as answers to the Narnia question. Charn is the territory ruled by the White Witch, and since we see her palace in the first film we see Charn, depsite the city itself technically being destroyed before the first film commenced. Cair Paravel is featured at the end of the film when the Pevensies are crowned.:yep:

I appreciate that this quiz took longer than expected, tomorrow I'm going to post the questions without engaging in banter in between. This should speed up the process.

The time will also be earlier at approximate 6pm.:ninja: I know that some people are unable to make this and I apologise, but there will be many more opportunities to collect points.

Thanks a million for joining in.

Yeah guys, no banter. This is a formal quiz and should be treated as such.

Damn. Wish I'd kept posting answers now that there's half points. Oh well, I'm going to kick ass in all the others anyway so it doesn't matter.
Everybody else might as well give up now.

Wait, hang on... was one of the questions actually about Narnia?? No way!
