No I mean anoretic - the proper medical term.

Anorexic just means someone with no or reduced apitite - can be caused by a number of things and different illnesses, For instance, I volunteered ina hospice, and most of out patients were anorexic. An Anoretic is specifically someone with Anorexia Nervosa.

lol - not!

Anorexia Nervosa: Nervous Loss of Appetite. In my experience that's a hilarious misnomer.

And Bulimia: Ox Hunger - well, yeah, in my case, that's a little more accurate....after weeks of fasting. :frown:

i was surfing the internet earlie and came across this website call stickfigures they are a pro anorexia forum. It's so sad they all talk about not eating anthing or just a little like 100 calories or cotton balls! to stop their hunger. They actually encourage each other and exhange tips its so horrible. My question is how on earth can this be allowed to take place so easily, i know theres free speech and everything but this is so destructive.

It's stupid sites like these that are encouraging more and more people my age to diet to the extreme. I can't stand dieting fads because some of them aren't safe. They should be banned from advertising and should only be uesd on the recommendations of a doctor. This would posibly prevent the progression of the illness of some eating disorder patients.

It doesn't suprise me, after all people use the internet to swap child pornography and encourage people to kill themselves.

The sad thing is that you could just as equally use the internet to find a support forum or get medical advice, it is unfortunate that people get pulled into sites like that.

i dont no, maybe eating disorders make you feel lonely and isolated, and they find comfort in not being alone. i think its important not to demonise them.

Just to be pedantic,

an·o·rec·tic ( P ) Pronunciation Key (n-rktk) also an·o·ret·ic (-rtk)
adj.
Marked by loss of appetite.
Suppressing or causing loss of appetite.
Of or affected with anorexia nervosa.

so it can actually mean anorexia from any cause. well. according to the dictionary, anyway. It's the same word as anoretic, just different spellings.

The medical distinction between anorexic and anoretic is non-descript v ED.

I have an eating disorder and I actually think some of these sites are helpful. They dont in any way encourage people to become anorectic, and I believe you cannot "choose" to "get" an eating disorder...but I do think these places offer support than cannot be found elsewhere. Friends and family can be supportive and give encouragement, but they will never truely understand what you're going through...and the tips they provide are merely a way to try and make life more bearable for sufferers.

Why don't you go post on that stickfigures website that anorexia is very serious and bad for your health, and that they should go to their GP immediately for advice on how to cope with anorexia. Anorexia damages lives, and should not be encouraged.

Sorry, but you don't think people realise that already?? They may have disorders, but please don't insult their intelligence! Hmm...wonder what'll happen if I don't eat enough!
That's part of the problem, they find it hard to stop, they need their disorder.
Posting that will get some bad responses.
Pro ana sites are just stupid...

"aNA is KEWL"
"aNa is my Goddess!!"
"u R thinSPIRATION!!!"
tee hee...

I have no objection to boards where people are free to discuss their disorders, but the "pro" ones are ridiculous sites for wannabe ED sufferers.
