Statistics-based research questions/dissertations in Sport Science

Hey,

So I recently read 'Moneyball' (great book!), and have always enjoyed maths/statistics and wanted to incorporate this in to my sport science degree in some way. However, I'm struggling to come up with a creative topic or idea that puts statistics at the forefront of a research question that will form the basis for the dissertation next year. Unfortunately, "the effect of possession on success in football matches" is both well researched and relatively boring!

Does anyone have any good ideas on statistical analysis in sport science?!
