Help with English . (Edexcel IGCSE English Language B)

I am a Jan 2018 candidate, and hardly a month left for exam. In my mocks i usually get Cs & Bs. my very simple question is, how do you want me to prepare? I usually get +-25/35 in Essay, how do I improve my Essays ? My teacher told me to improve my vocabulary, assuming I never liked reading & hardly finished any story books .

Another question , I am from Bangladesh & I am looking forward to study in US. So my question arise is , will that a problem if I have a B in IGCSE, which is English, if I am looking forward with Harvard,MIT,etc.
