English - don't know how I came to speak this but have always spoken English in every country I've lived in + from an early age , Dutch - born in the Netherlands, Arabic - Mum's half yemeni so taught us from early, Somali - dads nationality, so he taught us the language too. Italian - parents studied, met and lived in Italy so are fluent in Italian, and taught us as much as they can be bothered but defo my weakest lol, understand quite well but struggle speaking fluently. easiest to learn - English ( cause I learnt as a kid, my older cousins say learning English is much harder than we all assume) hardest - arabic, because I didn't visit an arabic speaking country until I was a teen, so my arabic wasn't as good as I was only learning through one parent & thus it didn't feel 'natural'
I speak English, French, Spanish, Bengali, Urdu and Hindi (though they're quite similar) and started to learn German
English = first language French = first foreign language Spanish = second foreign language Bengali = family language Urdu/Hindi = second family language (though not used as much)
I also understand a lot of Portugese - but can't speak it as fluidly as French and Spanish!
I split my time between the UK and Japan at the moment. Over the past couple of years, living with my non-English-speaking girlfriend whilst in Japan has forced my Japanese to improve pretty rapidly. Moving over there permanently in a few months.
I also speak a little Chinese, but it's not great. I wouldn't normally count it.
