Non medical job after f2?

Hi i’m currently an F2 and while I do like the hospital environment, I get so stressed by it and can’t see myself being a doctor long term. I hated surgery, would hate to do IMT/ GP training so think I want to leave medicine. What jobs are there that can possibly use my medicine degree after f2? I also wouldn’t consider radiology, microbiology or public health

try looking at the websites for pharmaceutical companies and for companies like KPMG, EY, PWC, Deloitte etc, they tend to advertise jobs for people with degrees in medicine. Good to hear you want to finish your F2 as this has a few advantages namely: a) you can locum on the side to earn some extra cash; and b) the fact you have done your F2 would be appealing to companies as it shows that you have completed your foundation training. Tech companies are also interested in doctors as well but just keep an eye as vacancies in the UK are nowhere near as much as they are stateside.

What about psychiatry, its a very different hospital environment to that of a general hospital? And long term you can just work in the community if that's what you prefer
Psych is definitely worth considering if you want a less frantic and stressed working life. The training is really good and you’re well looked after; you’re often very supernumerary throughout the majority of your training even as a higher trainee.

I’m a current CT2 and am happy to answer any questions about psych training!

All the deaneries/foundation schools offer careers advice and careers counselling for doctors wondering what their place might be. It’s good to consider options here, but it is also definitely worth asking through your FTPD or PSU for careers counselling,
I am wondering why you are rejecting radiology microbiology and public health?
It does sound as though you are not wishing to be a doctor at all, which is why a central counselling with a specialist careers advisor is probably your best bet.
Other options are research fellowships, teaching fellowships [tho these often have some clinical medicine involved]

Can you state why please? Those jobs are far more office-based, which is what a huge portion of your alternatives will be, so its important to know.

Aside from the good options above, a medicine degree is a science degree. And a science degree can lead to any of the options a degree like chemistry, biology, physics could i.e. pretty much any graduate job.

Definitely good advice. I do wonder about the impartiality of such bodies though - their secret mandate is probably to try to get you to stay in the NHS! Definitely worth doing though.
What are you looking for in a future job? You've mentioned things you dislike, but what would be your pull factors?

I would seriously re-consider radiology, ophthalmology, microbiology, psychiatry etc. The training and hours (and consequently stress) are very different to acute specialties. It really is like having an office job for the most part.

Still, if you really want to leave medicine completely it would be useful to have more info about what you're looking for in a future career.
I would agree it is worth looking at what else is out there in medicine (could also add histopath and previously chem pat to the list) and what it is you do not like about the job. If it is the training pathway or lack of training within then there are ways to make them more bearable (e.g. LTFT, alternative training routes, better training abroad).

I suspect the carriers people may get you to look at staying in. I do doubt that they have quotas etc. ( I could be wrong) even if they didn't they may just have a rather institutional outlook on things. However, that isn't to say that their knowledge and experience of what is actually in the NHS wouldn't be able to throw up options you had never heard of/thought of.

If you have done all of that and still want to go then there a plenty of things you could do. My advice, regardless of what you do, is to look at what you actually want from your job and what you don't want and then use that as the basis for your searching. This might make you come up with different things compared to if you just thought of jobs by title.
