thermal decomposition question

suggest a chemical test you could carry out to show whether all of a sample of magnesium carbonate has decomposed
If not all of the magnesium carbonate ... this means that there is some of it still leftover and hence you can test for the presence of carbonate by adding an acid ... look for co2 effervescence.

yeah i was thinking of bubbling the gas produced through limewater to show it was CO2 and therefore a carbonate however we have to suggest a test other than the limewater experiment
