I'm writing a book about choosing a college

Hey @9dobbo1, good luck with the book!
I was chatting to my mum who went Oxford (St Anne's, Biochemistry) and her advice was: "Choose the college with the best food"
None of that is evidence of a deliberate policy to not offer places to asians.you have no evidence to back up your statement, just as you didnt last time you made the accusation.you know full well that mat scores are only part of the decision making process.

I am not tending to be uncouth but the statement that I am smearing the Oxford colleges is also an accusation. I have already put my evidence, and clicking the link in my post and checking the published data won't take too much time. No deliberate policy is published for sure, but that doesn't imply colleges are absolutely disinterested in making decisions. What I have at the moment are merely data from the past years. These cannot prove this tendency but can serve as strong evidences. And also having preferences doesn't imply any discriminations. In 2019 Harris Manchester College only had a proportion of 32.4% for White which was far below the university average (60.0%), but did this suggest Harris Manchester College discriminates the White? I chose colleges that prefer Asians just because I wanted to raise my success rate of getting into Oxford, not because I was afraid I would be discriminated by the college.
You have some very basic raw data, you have no evidence to back up your statement,

Data is one kind of evidence. Thank you.
Data is not evidence, that you think it is,is rather worrying

Data isn't evidence?
Data by itself is not evidence, data that is relevant and provides proof for a conclusion is evidence..the data in this case s not evidence.

You should study statistics.

Can you guys maybe take your debate to pm or a group chat? This thread was made to help Dobbo gather information and testimonies for his book, so other comments that aren’t really relevant may make his job harder when he’s getting all of his information together.

I understand and wishfully hope he can.

I chose mine based on age, size (small), prettiness.

Not as vital to me because you could do a PGCE without ever going into college

big sad
My school actually allocated me to St John's because we've a history of sending successful English applicants there (for some reason). But it was one of my first choices because a number of my personal heroes studied there (Housman, Larkin, Coren), and the fact they've amazing archives in their library. Add the fact that there are fridges in every room, pretty generous book/travel grants, tutors that happen to specialise in areas I'm interested in, and it is in a central location, and I was sold.
