Average Monthly Cost - Bath

Hi
Considering Bath as one of my choices for the 2022 entry and would appreciate if any current students can share your real life monthly cost of living (including the accommodation) please ?
University housing - https://www.bath.ac.uk/professional-services/student-accommodation/
Rooms in flat and house shares - https://student.spareroom.co.uk/accommodation/bath
Private house rentals - https://www.rightmove.co.uk/student-accommodation/Bath.html
Housing is pricey - everything else is fine, you will spend less money here on transport, food and nights-out etc than places like London.

Hi,

I am a final year student at the University of Bath and am so happy to hear you are considering Bath as one of your uni choices! I've loved my time here.

In terms of monthly living costs in first year I would say it definitely varies for each person. In terms of accommodation, take a look at the undergraduate accommodation prices here which should give you a rough idea of which one might be most suited to your budget/maintenance loan if you will be getting one of these. The accommodation payment deadlines are based at the same time as the maintenance loan comes in, so if you are getting one then it's nice knowing you'll have just had your loan payment to help you pay for accommodation. We don't need to pay for accommodation monthly so I found it easier to budget based on knowing how much loan I'd have left after paying for it.

My main costs during a month were food and socialising:

- My weekly food shop would cost roughly £25 a week. So about £100 per month on food shops.
- Then I'd make sure to factor in say one take-away or meal out each week as a treat, so roughly another £80, totalling £180 for the month for food.
- I'd budget about £20 a week for extra things such as tickets to clubbing events, coffees with friends, any clothes/stationery etc. I might need. Taking my monthly budget up to £260.
- In first year the laundry would cost roughly £3 a time to use the facilities, and I'd do a wash each week. So an extra £12 a month for this.
- Same for bus tickets, I'd go into town probably twice a week so I'd spend about £6 on the bus. So £24 a month for this.

Overall, I'd budget nearly £300 a month for all of these things. Of course everyone's budget is different so you could definitely spend less/more on food for example!

I hope this helps and good luck with all your applications.

Hi Kayley,
This is very good info and kind of what looking for. Thanks and appreciated. I budgeted about £ 1900 for food etc per year (so average monthly about £ 160 considering 12 month average). However considering during vacation I will be at home with parents so not all 12 months
