Help! How did they work out that p(maths and English) =0.5 ??IMG_2103.jpegIMG_2104.jpeg

As the mark scheme says, using the addition law so
p(AuB) = p(A)+p(B)-p(AnB)

I don’t get how to work out what p(AnB)
I know it’s 0.5 coz of the markscheme but how do I work it out??
You know the other three terms in that equation, so simply rearrange and "solve" to get p(AnB)=0.5.
Why not try and write down clearly (probabilistic notation) what the question tells you, then sub into ... Or equivalently, as the ms says, draw the venn diagram.

maybe try looking at the table? I wouldn’t have known either tbh but it looks like the table comes in handy

re-read the hint above. Do you know - or can you work out - what P(AuB) is from the table? This will come in handy!
