English A level texts at Langley Grammar

Hi everyone, I'm hoping there are some kind and helpful members from here who can tell me a bit about the Sixth Form English department at Langley Grammar.

Specifically, I would like to know:
1. What are the texts from the English Literature Edexcel curriculum taught at LGS?
2. What's the English department like? As in strengths and weaknesses, areas where the teachers might be said to specialise in?

From the LGS website, one can see the following:
Component one, drama:

Dr Faustus
Component two, prose:

novel one
novel two
Component three, poetry:

Poems of the Decade
The Wife of Bath Prologue and Tale, Chaucer
Component four, coursework:

introduction and preparation
Component one, drama:

King Lear
Component four, coursework:

It's not very clear what novels are taught currently.

Also it would be great if the above could be confirmed.

Thanks

Hey. I don’t go to Langley grammar but at my school , the text you study depends on your teacher. So you don’t actually know until September and you may have friends in your year studying different books. If you’re really keen to know, it may be worth sending the school an email.

erm this is probablity super late but as the other poster mentioned it depends on the teacher, but generally it wont differ too much as there are only 3 or 4 a level english teachers. I currently go to LGS sixth form and study english lit. I do:

Prose:
Picture Of Dorian Gray
Dracula

(can also do Frankenstein and Handmaid's tale but they havent done that for 2 years now)

Poetry:
Poems of the Decade
Larkin (
this one depends on the teacher so you can also do:

Medieval Poetic Drama

Medieval Poet: Geoffrey Chaucer

The Metaphysical Poets

Metaphysical Poet: John Donne

The Romantics

Romantic Poet: John Keats

The Victorians

Victorian Poet: Christina Rossetti

Modernism

Modernist Poet: T S Eliot

The Movement

The Movement Poet: Philip Larkin

You sort of have a choice, if your entire class agrees, but your teacher will most likely teach you what they are most confortable with teaching. So generally the teachers favs are: Larkin, Rosetti, Romanitics, Keats and Eliot.
They lean towards single poets so that there is less context to remember about specific poets)

Drama:
Hamlet (our teacher asked if we wated to do King Lear or Othello,. no one answered so i think Hamlet is the general preference)
Doctor Faustus

Hope that helps...
