Hi! I am a year one criminology and sociology student who wants to build up her portfolio.I wonder if there are any valuable external opportunities (outside of uni) - workshops, competitions, program etc - for undergrad crim students? Would definitely appreciate your advice/recommendations!

Hi,
I am also a Criminology and Sociology student and If you have an idea of what you would like to do in the future I recommend summer Internships/summer schools in that area as it can help you build your connections and experience for future prospects. There are a few international programs where you attend lectures ect in another country which can be a great opportunity for you. Alternatively, if you are looking for work experience to help build up your cv you can look into criminal justice agencies, charities, social work, forensics or vicitms/ young offender internships. https://www.prospects.ac.uk/graduate-jobs-results?sortBy=dp&size=20&page=0 has a pretty good page for this to see what is available to you.
Additionally, if you are looking to widen your knowledge there are also a few criminology conferences which you can attend on top of this https://www.britsoccrim.org/conference/
If you have any other questions I am more than happy to answer them
Hope this helps!
