MA International Relations

Hi,

I have an offer for International Relations from SOAS, KCL and Liden University. What would be better?
I would really appreciate some advice on this.

What do you want to get out of it? KCL over SOAS definitely unless you want to focus on a SOAS specialist area. Leiden is a more interesting question and depends on what matters to you. It's less prestigious than KCL but you'd have the chance to live overseas and the cost of living will be a bit lower. London isn't a great place to go to unimn

My focus is building a career in IR and also developing my research on the side. London will be overseas as well for me, and I'm not very sure about Liden at the moment, in comparison to KCL and SOAS.

If you want a career, KCL is the best rated department and has strong links with government. It also allows you to broaden beyond pure IR due to the range of modules. The department as a whole has a fairly heavy focus on war compared to some others that may focus on eg. development studies but that doesn't mean you can't focus elsewhere.

Hi Congrats for your offer! For your course, studying at SOAS allows you to examine the international relations and foreign politics of different regions of the world including Asia, Africa and the Middle East, providing you a more global and critical perspective of the world. As a final year IR undergraduate, I've thoroughly enjoyed learning about geopolitics, the international political economy, the politics of the Middle East including Palestine/Israel and international conflicts, rights and justice, examining how war is framed and in what scope humanitarian assistance is motivated. You'll be able to delve into these topics in your masters course and also apply for 2 paid internships at e.g Amnesty International and Chatham House. SOAS is also great because of its diverse student body with people from all over the world, you'll get the chance to immerse in a multitude of cultures and join over 165 societies. I hope this helps and if you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them!
