Help! I’m a bit unsure

Hiya, so can schools choose to only pick one novel for gcse English literature paper 1 or is it mandatory for them to do two books? For example, can a school only pick Macbeth(for paper 1), An inspector Calls (+ poetry and conflict with unseen poetry for paper 2)? Or will they have to also e.g do a Christmas Carol for paper 1?
