Is there a very good social life at Newcastle? I know this question may be objective but overall are there many things to do and are people friendly?

Hi,

Newcastle has a fantastic social life and there is something for everyone. 1 in 6 people in Newcastle are a student so the city is full of life and there is always something going on.

It depends what kind of things you enjoy doing! There are great clubs, bars and pubs available if that is what you're looking for and Newcastle has a reputation for a great nightlife with places like Grey's Street and Bigg Market.

There are also plenty of opportunities to socialise without going out. The Quayside is a great area for a walk or a coffee and there is a market every Sunday which is a great place to go with friends. We are also on the coast so you can get the metro to the beach in around 30mins and spend a day on the beach. There is also another market in Tynemouth (on the coast) which has a great mix of different things.

Newcastle also has lots of green spaces, such as Jesmond Dene or Exhibition park, and we are only a small way away from Northumberland national park and Hadrians Wall if you enjoy walking or being outdoors!

Within the university there are loads of different societies (clubs) you can get involved with, check out the list here: https://nusu.co.uk/activities/societies/a-z

We also have a very active sports scene, both within the university and the city as a whole. You can get involved with sport at any level and there are fantastic facilities you can take advantage of.

The city also has a great music and culture scene with lots of venues to watch live music and even a music festival in the summer. Culturally, there's a large theatre and the UK's largest independent contemporary art, craft & design gallery, The Biscuit Factory.

The Geordies are notoriously kind, friendly and chatty and are always happy to help if they see someone looking lost!

I hope that helps, if you tell me more specifically what you're interests are I can try and give you more specific advice!
