This varies from University/Course, you should your personal tutor/lecturer/department team. Usually no lectures are held during freshers week.

Sorry for the unhelpful answer, I'd rather you be properly informed.

A lot of alcohol, full time boogieing, free stuff; have you not looked at the freshers events?

There are normally introductory lectures with the department, these should be on the induction planner

Hiya

Welcome to Durham!

1. Yes there are reading lists and it will be available on Learn Ultra and you also email your professors to check in with them.
2. You'll receive your room numbers and key the day you arrive.
3. To my knowledge, no you don't need a starter essay but I'm not sure if the Philosophy/Theology department require them but I don't believe so. If you haven't been emailed about a starter essay, then I assume it's not required.
4. Timetables are available online via MyTimetable. If you google 'My Timetable Durham University' it should be available on the first search result.
5. No you don't have any lessons during Freshers week, just orientation and introduction lectures with general info about your department and your course, assessments, etc.

Best of luck and I hope this information helps

Wonderful!! What are you majoring in?
Okay, so basically there’s not a lot of information I could get on Trevs online.
So I was wondering if you could briefly describe the college? It’s not one of the more popular colleges so I’m a little bit worried.
I’m into badminton and I think I want to join rowing but I’ve never actually done it before in my life. So would it be possible for me?
And also what are the societies like and what is the general social scene at Trevs?
And also the accommodations… are they usually shared or en-suite?
And what about the pantries? Is there enough space to cook for yourself during the vacations if you choose to stay back?
Thank you so much!!

I’m in my second year of psychology
So Trevs is mainly in one building, with a hexagon structure so many of our rooms are weird shapes. I think we have really nice facilities for how small we are including a really lovely bar, library, college shop, gym and other sports facilities as well as plenty of spaces for musical hobbies
I’m not entirely sure about the sports societies but we definitely do have a badminton group and I know a couple people in it and it seems really lovely. Our sports hall is regularly used for badminton. In terms of rowing, I’m not sure what the situation is like for beginners, but based on their Instagram they do welcome them to learn, you would be able to find more information out about this during the college freshers fair.
I’m not majorly involved in any societies but due to the smaller nature of our college we do seem to have less options, but there are still many great sports and music societies as well as other societies such as games. I have made loads of great friends here, the college is really friendly and getting involved with the JCR such as joining things like events committee is a really great way to connect with the college community. Our bar is a really lovely place to socialise, open every night, with weekly Sunday night quizzes.
Accommodations are shared bathroom (unless you have a medical need). The bathrooms are decent and get cleaned regularly, I had a few issues during my first year but generally it wasn’t really a problem. There are a few shared rooms so there is a chance that you could end up sharing.
In terms of pantries, some are really small but some landings have full kitchens with ovens, big fridge freezers etc. as both years I’ve lived here I haven’t had access to a kitchen I always use my friends one upstairs, but also if you need kitchen access during the holidays I think it would be fairly easy to get access to one

Thank you SO much for all the insight. One last question, do you think it’s possible to get accommodation in the college for the second year? I ask this because I’m a little concerned about the housing crisis and was wondering if it’s a good fall back option.

So I did manage to do this but I have medical need. For returners accommodation they have a priority list and second year without medical need is about as low as you can get so whilst I did have many friends who managed to get accommodation for this year, many people I know in third year (higher priority) did not manage to get accommodation in college for next year so it really does depend year on year what availability they have
