Is volunteering/work experience worth while for business?

I'm year 11 and I am hoping to study something to do with business at university, e.g economics, business management, I haven't really decided yet. I am already well rounded in terms of sports, music and academics (academic being mostly science competitions, and just a few maths competitions), and chess. Would it be worth working in a charity shop helping to identify and price items for a couple of hours a week to improve my chances of getting an offer in a couple of years?

Yes. Client-facing role which is a pro for business. Also, volunteering is always good: shows you're not selfish (if done for the right reasons).
Heaps of transferrable skills too which can help you land a part-time job while at uni, e.g. teamwork, organisation, inventory stocking etc
