civil engineering software used?

for a first year undergraduate civil engineering course which computing software is usually used? i’d like to know this to be able to prepare myself. thanks.

Hi there,

Every university uses different software. However they are all somewhat similar to each other so learning one software will allow for you to transfer these skills to another. Personally I have used AutoCAD while at university, however during placement I have used MicroStation - These software's are both used for drawing in 2D and 3D with almost all the same functions except different layouts and layers. Both have their merits and drawbacks.

You will also probably use some kind of coding software such as python and general Microsoft applications - I would recommend getting familiar with excel especially.
