essentially yeah, they say p3 is usually easieer tho cuz the bounaries for p3 alone is the same as p1 whilst p2 usually has higher boundaries

guys what topics are likely to come up

Everything that wasn't on paper 1 or 2 tbh

will the grade boundaries be low this year since the math papers have been quite hard so far ?

I doubt they'll be that low, paper 1 was slightly harder than average but paper 2 was really average

Hello Everyone! Just a reminder that functions have not yet come up (Excluding transforming graphs)! Therefore we'll be expecting them in Paper 3H.

Here's a few practice questions:

(1) The functions f and g are such that

f(x) = 3x2 + 5, x > 0
g(x) = x-1(1 + 3x) , x is not equal to 0

(i) Solve f(x) = 23.75
[2 marks]

(ii) Find an expression for g-1(x)
[4 marks]

Another function, h(x), is such that h(x) = kx3
Given h(0.5) = 0.75,
(iii) find the value of the constant k.
[2 marks]

I had a really bad headache during the paper today and my vision went blurry (I literally could not read most of the questions),my headache prevented me from thinking properly so I didn’t put my hand up, I sat through the exam hoping it would go away but it didn’t until the last 4 mins of the exam. I was going to take maths a level in hopes that I would get a 9but now I don’t think I will even get a 7. I have emailed my exams officer about this. Do you thinkit’s possible I could resit? As special conditions only offer 1 extra mark but I literally lost 80% of my marks because of this (again I literally could not read most of the questions)

Hello Everyone! Despite the brief appearance in Paper 1H, algebraic conditional probability has not come up.

Considering these questions can be worth 4-6 marks, it's absolutely essential you can tackle them and solve them effectively.

So, here are some practice questions:

(1) In a box, there are only g green marbles and r red marbles.

William takes at random a marble from the box.
The probability that the marble is green is 4/9

William puts the marble back into the box.

William then adds 2 more red marbles and 6 more green marbles.
A marble is taken at random from the box again.

The probability that the marble is green is 50%

Find the number of green marbles and red marbles that were in the bag originally.
[5 marks]

(2) Xavi has a sack containing N counters.

6 are red and the rest are blue.

Xavi is going to take at random 2 counters from the bag. He'll not replace them.

The probability that Xavi will take two blue counters is 91/190

Find the value of N.
[4 marks]

(3) There are some marbles in a bag.

There are:
-16 red marbles,
-18 blue marbles,
-G green marbles.

Helena takes at random two marbles from the bag; she does not replace them.

Given the probability that Helena takes two marbles of different colours is 80/123, find the value of G.
[7 marks]

Anyone know if I can resit before results day?

Hello Everyone! Here are some mixed questions for Paper 3H (Edexcel Mathematics 1MA1)

These questions are targeted at grades 8-9, so please do not feel discouraged if you have difficulty answering them effectively (or at all).
These are tailored for Paper 3H based on the appeared topics in prior papers.

(1) The curve C with equation y = 3x2 + 5 - 2x
and the straight line with equation y = 14/3 touch at point P.

Find the coordinates of the point P.
[3 marks]

(2) Prove that 240 - 1 is the product of two consecutive odd numbers.
[2 marks]

(3) C is a circle with equation x2 + y2 = 12.25

The point P lies on the circle.
The point P has coordinates (2.1, 2.8)

The line L is a tangent to the circle at point P.

Find an equation of L.
Give your answer in the form ax + by = c, where a, b and c are integers.
[4 marks]

(4) A graph has equation y = abx , where a > 0 and b > 0

The point P and Q lie on the graph.

Point P has coordinates (3, 0.75)
Point Q has coordinates (5, 0.1875)

Find the values of a and b.
[3 marks]

(5) Given that

2n = 2x^2 × 16x × 8

and

x > 0
find an expression for x in terms of n.
State any restrictions on n.

(Please note the x^2 means the x is squared, so it's 2 to the power of x squared.)
[5 marks]

(6) Triangle ABC is a non right-angled triangle.

AB = (2x - 1) cm
AC = (2x + 1) cm
Angle BAC = 30°

The area of triangle ABC is (x2 + x - 3.75) cm2

The largest angle in this triangle is obtuse.

Find the size of the largest angle in the triangle.
Give your answer correct to the nearest degree.
[6 marks]

(7) There are only blue pens and red pens in a box.

The number of blue pens is four times the number of red pens.

Rita takes at random one pen from the box.
She records the colour of the pen and then replaces it in the box.
Rita does this n times, where n 2

Write down an expression, in terms of n, for the probability that Rita gets a blue pen at least once and a red pen at least once.
[2 marks]
