Hey guys,
I’ve just finished my BSc(Hons) Paramedic science degree and graduated with a first. I currently have a job offer to start as a NQP with LAS. However I have been having some doubts about my long term goals.
When I was younger I wanted to do medicine and planned to apply to medical school however I didn’t have the predicted grades or faith in myself tbh so I applied for the UCLAN masters of physician associate studies course. I had a conditional offer which turned unconditional upon getting BBB in biology, chemistry and photography at A-Level in 2019. In the end I decided to decline the offer and take a gap year where I worked in asda and decided I wanted to apply for paramedic science courses as I liked the idea of constantly seeing different things and being in different environments. So fast forward 3 years and I’ve graduated.
Don’t get me wrong I love the job and the uncertainty that we face, however i feel like there is something missing and I am constantly thinking about applying to medicine. The only worries I have is the age that I would be upon graduation (29 if I do my 2 years NQP) and age when I would be a consultant.
The thing I can’t decide is whether to do my two years as a newly qualified paramedic where I complete my portfolio and potentially get funded level 7 modules during this time to maintain CPD and then apply to medicine or to just go balls to the wall and apply before completing my NQP period and becoming band 6.
The reason I worry about this is the funding of postgrad med, as if I am a band 6 para I can easily go bank either with LAS or a private service which would help to fund the course
Any help would be much appreciated, my heads scrambled 😂
