The Student Room Group

you know those people who fall asleep in public

..like on public transport? do you wake them up or just let them snooze and maybe miss their stop?

:mmm:

people actually fall asleep in fast food restaurants too, it seems. Spotted two men fast asleep at McDonalds a while ago, in exactly the same position at the window but in two separate restaurants along the same road. Made me chuckle :h:

I fell asleep on the pavement in Holborn not too long ago! Fortunately, a lovely lady woke me up and escorted me on to my night bus. Unfortunately, I have not seen her again.

I woke up on a train a few weeks ago, half an hour after it had arrived at its destination.
It was the only and final stop, so everyone who saw me knew that I had to get off but no one woke me up!
Er, yeah, that would be me. I find the motion of the bus soothing, so shoot me. I always wake up for my stop though.

If I see people asleep, I usually leave them. When I'm asleep in public (usually the uni library - I actually think I've slept more in there than studied) I don't expect people to wake me up. Transport though... Hmm, I'd be annoyed with myself if I slept through my stop, but I don't think I'd expect anyone to wake me. Unless they did know where I was meant to be getting off.
Um depends I'm 14 if I shook anyone on teh bus they'd prolly think i'm trying to mug them.Nah if they're sitting next to me then by all means but what if it's not the last stop and they get pissy?
I really don't know why people do this, surely quite a few of them get robbed/miss their stop and it's just a major inconvenience? As for waking someone up, personally I wouldn't unless I knew what stop they needed to get off at and they woke up quite easily without me having to get too involved lol. If you got to the last stop I imagine the conductor would wake them up. And if the train's really busy it's not really fair on other passengers - I've seen sleeping people leaning on the random person sat next to them and they usually have loads of bags spread out on the seat next to them.

I'm terrible at this. I can just fall asleep at the tip of a hat. I commute by train and I will wake someone up when we get to the end of the line. People do the same for me. I have been known to wake up in Cromer and Haddiscoe when the train has gone to Norwich and then turned around again to go somewhere else.

My friends like to take photos of me when I fall asleep, they all think it's very funny. Here's me, asleep, in a charity shop a few weeks ago. Greaaat.
I fell asleep on the train from a night shift at work in Cornwall once. I was meant to be going one stop, half an hour down the line to Plymouth.

I woke up in Birmingham. The most expensive snooze I've had yet :colonhash:

lol :teehee:
A random guy actually fell asleep on my shoulder on a crowded train once. He kept nodding, and nodding, and sliding down onto my shoulder, until his girlfriend looked embarrassed and woke him up properly. I was trapped by the window, so couldn't escape.

Last year, I had to commute to Uni by bus everyday and the journey was roughly 40 minutes. Coming home, i'd be soo tired that i'd sleep through the entire bus journey and wake up just in time for my stop which I found amusing. One time though, I was in such a deep sleep that I missed my stop. A regular on the bus had seen me get off the stop previously and so woke me up and I managed to get off the next one :colondollar:

I hate that thing when you get really tired so your head starts to nod and as soon as you fall asleep it drops and wakes you up then the cycle repeats.

I just do that on trains.
a girl fell asleep onto my shoulder on the train home to manchester, i nudged her asking when her stop is just in case.. turns out to be manchester too, had a few good dates

Might be tl;dr, but this happened to me once. I ran away from home, spent all night awake in a friends garden shed (it's like an extention thing to his house). The following morining, I went to college anyway because I needed my EMA money desperately. Then after college finished, when I got the train back home I was tired and starving obviously..... so I just snoozed on the train. Then far past my stop, the ticket inspector woke me up, I showed him my card, looked outside and I was like WTF? what stop is that? I then stupidly thought to myself ''grrrhghuhg they must have changed the routes then.... I'll just go back to sleep'', so I did go back to sleep and eventually got woken up by the noise of a group of school kids.... I missed my stop by 5 or 6 stations.
