GCSE Maths Private Candidate

Hi,

I am hoping to enter for my GCSE exam in June next year, I am sitting it under the AQA syllabus.

I spend all day monday ringing round local secondary school which were on the AQA list but they all said they were not taking private candidates next year, I also tried the academy that my daughters attend and they said that they are not taking private candidates due to child protection reasons they don't want adults walking round the school, I fully understand that but as a parent and a teaching assistant my self I kind of felt they were over reacting a bit.

Does anyone know and schools or colleges in the bradford area that will be taking private candidates for exams in June 2011.

is Harrogate too far?

try places like Bradford college

they won't have silly excuses about child protection
be prepared to switch examiners if necessary, it's the same maths more or less but you would need to practice using relevant past papers as they do differ slightly in style.

Try contacting private colleges, they most of the time always let people to do them. May be slightly more expensive though, maybe 100 or so.

Thanks for your replies.

I have tried quite a number of schools and colleges in my area now, just got 2 others to try that have been suggested by the school that I work at but going to have to wait until after christmas now :frown:

If all else fails I am going to try some schools near my sister and go to stop with her for a week lol :tongue:

I know it might sound daft but if the schools are saying that they can't do it for child protection, did you mention that you're a TA at a local school? is it worth offering that you do a CRB clearance for that school first (and paying for it)? Even offer that you'll do some voluntary work for them if you don't work full time...
Better still if any of the schools is the catchment school for the one you work at / the head knows your head etc, see if your head can talk to them? After all if you were taking a group of kids from your school to visit that school they'd have to let you in...

Well I have finally found a school willing to take me for my exam, what a relief that is have been worrying all over xmas and spend every moment of my spare time ringing round all the local schools since the new year. :biggrin:

Mr M that aqa list is useless none of those schools are taking private candidates! but thanks for the help anyway :smile:

I was accepted by Carlton Bolling College in Bradford. Here is there web address you can find all the contact details on there www.carltonbolling.co.uk and the exam officer that I spoke to was very helpful
