GCSE

Hi guys, I'm re-sitting my GCSEs as a private candidate next summer in my school.
I'm currently doing self-study and revision at home.
I failed 5 subjects as I moved from a different country and had issues with adjusting etc...
My school told me that I will have to pay for my papers... Does anyone know that if you fail GCSE maths and English and then re-sit as a private candidate will they pay for it or not?
How much are all the papers going to cost me roughly?? Is it a lot? Is there any account offered to deprived students??
What if you can't afford it? Will they do anything to help or not?

I'm doing the following subjects****:

1)AQA English Language
2) AQA English Literature
3) Edexcel Maths
4) AQA Biology
5)AQA Chemistry
6)AQA Physics
7) AQA Geography
8) AQA R.E
9) EDUQAS WJEC BUSINESS STUDIES

I would try to resit the English Language and Maths at an adult college. You should be able to get away with doing them for free there.

As a side note, why are you resitting so many GCSES? For most uni degree courses and sixth form colleges, you would only need 5 GCSEs above a grade 4. The more important GCSEs are maths and English language. The ones that might be considered required subjects by sixth form colleges for specific A Level subjects are the 3 sciences.

To sit exam papers as a private candidate, you would need to check the exam and admin fees listed by the exam board and exam centres. If the exam centre is outside of London, chances are your admin fees would be significantly cheaper. I don't know how much your school is going to charge you in terms of admin fees.

See the following:

https://www.eduqas.co.uk/media/ti3edkpw/wjec-entry-fees-2023-24-all-series-english-19-09-2023.pdf (£42.96 for business studies GCSE)

All in all, it's about £40-50 per subject, which isn't cheap if you are doing so many of them.

2 things I would point out: AQA is probably a better exam body to do maths and English subjects with. I personally like them for sciences, maths, and geography.
