surely it depends on what you define as the 'topshop generation'. If you mean a generation that has been brought up in the age of capitalism and consumerism, then yes, we are and the 90s were absolutely testament to it. Even on a micro level, it seems that people during xmas time were more concerned about what they were going to buy as presents than the coming year which would see government cuts and tax rises- undoubtedly something that will only be apparent when it hits. I have a friend at the moment who is on jsa, has no job, dropped out of uni and dosent seem to be going anywhere, yet he still had the money to buy a playstation 3, a HD tv and surround sound this xmas. It was at that moment i realised that Britain isnt devoid of religion at all- simply christianity has been replaced by consumerism, and people are more than happy to bow to it.

Its good that young people are getting political, however, i cannot help but think that it is rooted in selfishness. Students did not really protest against cuts in welfare, or primary/secondary education, or other essential services. Yet they went up in arms over a rise in tuition fees (of which would be loaned to them anyway). I will agree that we are 'not the top shop generation' when young people are actively protesting against world atrocities as was the case in the 60s and 70s.

This girl got into politics based on the Conservatives apparent policy of NHS cuts - a policy which didn't exist, indeed the party stood on a platform of 'we'll cut the deficit, not the NHS'. She's an idiot.

Her solution to the problem of spending cuts is simply to raise taxes. That is, bluntly, not a useful contribution to the discussion. She then goes on to boast about being able to 'balance' a bit of protesting with GCSEs, as if doing a few exams at the end of the year somehow makes a person incredibly busy, and peddle the myth that somehow people will be unable to afford to go to university under the government's reforms. What utter rubbish.

I don't buy everything there though, just faddish things I take a fancy to. I don't expect them to last long and my opinions on clothes change pretty quickly. I do love plain items from them though..like plain white & black Tees.

I like Topshop for their cardigans & jeans as they last longer and fit better but I wish they cost much less.

( I'm a real clothes whore for Zara right now... don't know why but love them, affordable & decent quality!)

Most shops have been generalised nowadays. Topshop/Topman is trendy, H&M is cheap & indie/quirky, Dorothy Perkins/Burton is trendy but older generation trendy, Peacocks is cheap & bland, Primark is bargain basement. Jewels can be found in all.

It just seems like she's trying hard to prove that she's mature and not into the superficial things like people her age yet ironically her article seems immature and superficial in itself. One minute she's saying that she's not like everyone else, the next, she's implying that the majority of teenagers are interested in politics and are not as petulant as the media would have you believe - there can't be two majorities of opposing factors, so which is it?

Tbh, I think it's more the article in itself that's badly written and there are several gaps in her knowledge. Yes, her passion for the cause shows through but who's to say this 'passion' only stems from wanting to appear different from her peers? With a little more research, I'm sure she could form a more solid opinion and hopefully try an approach which doesn't give the air of someone who thinks they're superior to others.

Yeah Id choose Primark over Topshop 2, half the price and who could tell the diff anyway. Dont see what the kid in the article was tryin 2 say though? And why pick Topshop out of all the shops owned by the Arcadia group?
BTW I live in Ghd 2, its weird 2 see someone on here who lives near me, i dint think half the ppl on TSR even existed. Dya really live in Ghd?
