Oops, my bad!:colondollar: :ashamed2:

IT can't be 2,2-propanediol, you've to show that 2,2 represents the diol.

I think the way I wrote it is acceptable though. Anyone?

There aren't many different ways. I believe there are a few isolated compounds which have several correct names but on the whole a consistent system is followed and all compounds have standard names.

I'm aware of two ways. I don't know if there are more.

Two ways of what? In IUPAC nomenclature there is only one correct way to name each compound. Obviously some compounds have non-IUPAC, common use names, but they are not using the same system.

No, you are wrong.

You're not going to get people to say you are right, because as far as I know, you're not.

correct, twelve. He is wrong. I don't know why he keeps claiming he is right when we have all told him several times what the correct answer is!

A pentacoordinate carbon = a Texas carbon. Everything's bigger in Texas!

So, I think the correct name (other than propane-2,2-diol) would be 2,2-propanediol. Is that right?
